Chris Cartledge is a full-time, professional artist, dividing his time between illustrations and painting for more than 20 years. His designs and influence in the sports and mascot industry can be seen all over the world in movies and television. Over the last two decades, he has launched three custom art companies, selling two that continue to operate at the top of their markets today. He has also held a position on the Clemson University Visual Art Board, and as an alumnus remains passionate about Clemson, sports, and the arts.
Chris started painting while a student at Clemson University in the late 80’s studying under professor Ireland Regnier, where he further developed his deep love for the arts and painting.
One weekend while a student at Clemson, Chris, and a friend made an impromptu trip to Chicago to visit the Art Institute of Chicago. While in Chicago, a generous couple invited them to dinner at their lovely home. Upon walking into the home, Chris noticed original Leroy Neiman paintings covering the walls. Chris’ life was forever changed. Color! Energy!
This early inspiration, combined with Chris’ passion for sports is evident in his expressionistic style acrylic on canvas, a welcome reprieve and balance to the years of illustrations. His favorite subjects remain Clemson sports, abstract jazz interpretations, and commissioned portraits. He creates from his home studio on Lake Keowee near Clemson, SC.
